• I wish I could post the original of this photo. Alaska needs to be seen big.
• Even six months after my visit, the Alaskan Range still fascinates me. I look forward to returning.

• Even as posters, photos can't do this place justice. For a semblance of realism, however, I'm including a free cloud of mosquitoes with every print.
• Light rays seem to be everywhere in Alaska. Be sure to view this at original size (click the "o").
• An impressionistic view of an abandoned gold mine.

• The weather was seldom muted during my visit to Eagle, Alaska. Scattered showers made for rapidly changing and stunningly beautiful lighting. This scene was a dozen or so miles from me but appears closer because of my telephoto lens.
• Rain makes light, elegant lines as it falls from the sky. Strong backlighting isn’t common so this is rarely illustrated well. I was elated to have this scene in front of my eyes!

• I shot this during a tough bush flight in Alaska. We went through a converging front system with plenty of turbulence. VFR conditions were worsening so we ended up following the Yukon at 150 feet altitude to our destination.

It was at this time that I remembered reading that bush flying is one of the riskiest professions on earth...
• Intensive gold mining had left this hillside stripped of most vegetation. It was fitting then that we visited it on an icy overcast day. Somehow it’s still beautiful.
• Sometimes we can go slightly beyond reality in a photograph. What this does reflect accurately is the mood that evening.
• McKinley base camp. We chartered a de Havilland Otter ski plane in order to get this series.
• High up in the Alaskan Range near Mount McKinley lies this perpetually frozen bowl of snow and ice. It is an amazing feeling to actually see this in person - something a photograph can't replicate.

Looks like your floating above all that softness with gilded silver covered mountains glistening through. Absolutely beautiful!
